Hope i don't have to replace anything else before i can find a new owner.Gearbox maintenance is essential for car owners, whether they drive manual or automatic. Just ticked, because i can't sell a car without a trans in it, so i have no choice but to go through this hassle just so i can off the darn thing. I need it sometimes, so i will consider keeping my convertible for now, but i am threw with MB. As with the others, i am thinking about moving over to Lexus for a sedan. I wish i had sold it before this happened. Some say we can reprogram my existing computer others say no, it needs a new one. My husband has talked to several other places and they all say something different. They tell me i have to have computer, valve body and trans replaced. Then it wouldn't come out of first at all no matter what the other day when driving it. If i would pull over, restart car it would drive off fine. Of course it drove fine part of the time, maybe 90%, then it when on occasion is would shift down hard, get stuck in first. So they didn't have trans there and told me to replace filter and flushed the fluid to see if this would help. anyway, They told me at first that it was the control board, so they ordered that $1500 part and when it was there for that, they said it wasn't the problem that i had shavings in the pan and that i would need entire transmission, some bolts that are aluminum inside the valve body were apparently breaking and that was what was in the pan. I expect it to last longer than this when it has been maintained properly. I drove my 86 to 180,000 miles, and since this is only a winter driver and i keep my convertible for summer, plus i work from home, so it has not been used all that much, so why should i have to buy another when there is only 46,000 miles on it? It's just crazy. this is nothing or should be nothing on an MB. I know the car is eight years, old, but only has 46,000 miles on it. You drive an eight year old car, I would also look at the used option-check out LQK In any event there are thousands of used transmissions available all over the place. Have they advised you of what is wrong with the transmission?(How do we estimate the repair) Being in the automotive business, I am rather surprised that you could get insulted!
